Yuri Goron is a Senior Systems Analyst with over 20 years experience in the area of systems analysis and design, systems integration, implementation and software development. Case Study - University of Connecticut Foundation *Cool Customer

University of Connecticut Foundation

Background:
The University of Connecticut Foundation Incorporated is a private, nonprofit corporation established in 1964 in the state of Connecticut. Its mission is to solicit, receive, and administer gifts and financial resources from private sources for the benefit of all campuses and programs of the University of Connecticut. The Foundation operates exclusively to promote the educational, scientific, cultural, and recreational objectives of the University of Connecticut. As the primary fund-raising vehicle to solicit and administer private gifts and grants that will enhance the University’s mission, the Foundation supports the University’s pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, and public service. The Foundation’s role is thus critical in supporting the University’s goal of becoming a truly exceptional institution.

Challenge:

The University of Connecticut Foundation wanted to make large volume schedule changes to complex reports without spending large amounts of time in Crystal Enterprise deleting existing scheduled jobs and creating new ones. The Foundation’s scheduled jobs are complex with a variety parameters, emails, formats, descriptions and event dependencies. In order to make minor changes in Crystal Enterprise, a completely new setup of the job was required. APOS Systems’ InfoScheduler provided the Foundation with a solution that did not require re-creation of their schedule. “You can simply change the property you need changed and you’re ready to go,” said Craig.

 

Solution:
The Foundation quickly appreciated the functionality of APOS InfoScheduler; they were able to shift the scheduling maintenance work from the Crystal Enterprise administrator to their users. InfoScheduler has cut the time for simple changes to a scheduled job from 2 to 3 minutes per job change to 10 to 20 seconds. Some of the Foundation’s schedules have over 50 jobs. Replicating this through Crystal Enterprise would take 1.5 to 2.5 hours; with InfoScheduler, it takes minutes.
