From the Blogosphere... | David Taylor's "Missing Piece"
|
- "Business Objects has many great partners, but probably none better than APOS. In January of this year, APOS was awarded the Business Objects Technology Partner of the Year Award for 2007. They have used the BusinessObjects SDK more extensively than any other BusinessObjects partner. They don't offer just one solution.
Their tools provide dozens of potential missing pieces that might fit your BI puzzle.

Report Bursting: The Holy Grail of BI | Mark Cooper, EMEA Technical Account Manager
|
|
The idea of report bursting has been around for many years but has not been a built-in feature of many enterprise reporting systems, and solutions are much sought after.
The most common example of a report bursting requirement is to run a large report once with an automated process sending filtered copies of the report to individual users. For example; a report is run daily for the Sales Manager which details profit and loss for a number of cost centres.
Rather than schedule the report to run hundreds of times via multiple schedules a bursting solution will run the report once
and then use a set of defined rules to split the report by cost centre and make sure each cost centre manager receives a personalized copy of his report.
While this example is often cited, there are a plethora of options for extending this simple but necessary concept.
For customers implementing BusinessObjects Enterprise, APOS has consistently added value with their solutions to deliver just about every conceivable type of report burst.
Following are some of the popular features enabled by APOS report bursting solutions:
- Single and multi-pass to repository, email, and network file location
- Support for Web Intelligence, Desktop Intelligence or Crystal Reports
- Add view/edit passwords to DOC, XLS, or PDF output
- PDF output security - restrict editing, printing options and more
- ZIP (with password) multiple files (multiple versions of the same report in multiple formats) into one file or individual files
- Send email as content with text and html parts for better email client compatibility
- Report consolidation to PDF with security and encryption
- Consolidate all reports in a report package in XLS, DOC, RTF, or TXT format
- Generate an automatic email notification on successful or failed processing of the report package as a whole
