Object Manager: Powerful New Features, Premium Released | Ofir Gil, CTO

Object Manager Premium Now Released:
Automate Your Promotion Processes

Ofir Gil, Chief Technology OfficerWe are very pleased to announce the release of Object Manager Premium. This new package includes both our outstanding Object Manager desktop tool, which is a powerful administration and management tool, and the Promotion Server component which is a new automated and structured promotion tool.

The Promotion Server provides a special user interface that allows users with restricted security rights to build promotion packages and schedule them to be promoted by the Promotion Server.

The user only needs read rights both for the source system and the target system (the source can be an XI system or a file folder). The server has the correct credentials to be able to do the actual promotion. All of the activity is logged so administrators can tell which user requested to promote specific reports. Packages can also be reverted by the administrator if needed.

Packages are created under departmental folders so that only people in the same department with the correct security rights can manage the department's packages. This helps with various regulatory requirements that demand that developers will not have direct access to modify production systems.

All of the settings needed during the promotion are set on the package itself and a single source report can be promoted to multiple target locations with different settings for each target. This is helpful for customers who like keeping one version of a source report but need to deploy it to different locations with the XI system with different settings such as login credentials.

The Promotion Server is also part of the APOS Premium Administration Bundle. This bundle includes 10 of our most popular tools and is offered on the Business Objects price list. This new addition to the bundle further enhances its potency and ability to serve as an administration powerhouse.

New Features in Object ManagerObject Manager for BusinessObjects XI | Powerful New Features Added

Object Manager enables powerful report promotion and bulk maintenance of objects (reports, folders, users, groups, etc.) using a full client tool, instead of just one object at a time with the Central Management Console. Here are some new features recently added...

  • The ability to manage alert notifications was added.
  • Added 'Schedule Settings' screen to allow users to set the default schedule for report objects.
  • The ability to perform the "Run Now" schedule functionality which will schedule the object based on the default schedule settings mentioned above was added.
  • We have added the ability of Object Manager's promotion wizard to remember the last 5 CMS logons that were used within the promotion wizard screen.
