APOS Administrator | New Features
|
|
A must-have for power users and administrators, APOS Administrator enables you to perform system administration and management actions in bulk. 
New APOS Administrator features recently added to the Object Management technology:
- Promotion while maintaining source machine CUID
- Group list export: allows the user to export a list of selected groups to a file
- New security maintenance screen:
- Support for SAP BusinessObjects' new Access Levels
- Color coded advanced writes with a write back feature so that the user can easily tell at a quick glance which advanced rights are set to which permission (i.e. granted, denied or inherited) as well as if they have been committed or not. The write back will also let the user know if the save was successful or not, the color coding will not be applied until after the save has been performed and the reload is complete.

Solution Used: APOS Storage Center (formerly Archive Manager)
Background:
Bord Gáis Éireann (Bord Gáis) was established in 1976 and is a commercial State body operating in the Irish energy industry. With over 630,000 gas and electricity customers and a turnover in 2008 of €1,379 million, Bord Gáis employs approximately 900 staff and is headquartered in Cork, Ireland.
For many, Bord Gáis would be synonymous with natural gas. However, the structure of the energy industry has changed significantly since the introduction of market liberalisation and Bord Gáis now has a variety of roles within the gas industry in Ireland. In addition, Bord Gáis has expanded beyond its original base into the electricity supply market. Bord Gáis has two main businesses – Networks and Energy.
Challenges:
Bord Gáis implemented an Enterprise-wide Data Warehouse with SAP BusinessObjects XI as the reporting tool. Complex SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence reports have been developed which are critical to the financial month end close.
The challenge that Bord Gáis faced was to ensure that they have a backup of the reports at all times, and that they can recover archived versions of the reports if necessary.
Solution:
Bord Gáis set out to look for a product that would meet their requirements and their evaluation process deemed that APOS Storage Center was the best product for them.
"Without APOS Storage Center there was no simple way to restore just one file in the SAP BusinessObjects repository. Now we have an application that allows the selection of individual folders and files for backup. Different rules regarding frequency and number of backups to store can be easily configured for each object," explained Dave Cullinane, Business Intelligence Delivery Manager at Bord Gáis. "It is vital that we know that all reports are archived in the event that we need to restore to an older version. There would be significant reputational damage and cost if we were unable to restore. While it is not possible to quantify the ROI, it is significant."

 The annual North American Business Objects User Group Conference took place on October 18-21 in Dallas, and APOS was involved as a conference sponsor, vendor exhibitor and session speaker. This year's event was well attended, with a solid increase in conference attendees over last year's event, and a distinct boost in business environment confidence of those attendees that we spoke with. These factors meant for a very successful conference for APOS, with many new contacts and existing customers expressing a strong desire to both begin and expand their usage of APOS Solutions.
