APOS Live Data Gateway

Extended Data Connectivity for SAP Lumira

The convergence of SAP Design Studio and SAP Lumira is big news for SAP BusinessObjects users needing to create and use visualizations to communicate BI's single version of the truth. To achieve this single version, BI practitioners — from business users to designers — need to establish the best and most diverse data connectivity possible.

Live data connectivity is preferable for many reasons, but is only possible natively for SAP HANA, BW (7.5 and up), and UNX data sources. For relational and OLAP data sources, Lumira users not working outside of the box must make do with Acquire mode, which means they must import data for their projects. That imported data is out of date as soon as it is imported.

The APOS Live Data Gateway simplifies and extends the data connectivity for SAP Lumira. The Live mode of data connectivity provides:

  • Connection to trusted and governed data sources
  • A simplified discovery experience, with no need to write SQL
  • Flexible data selection
  • Data that is always current
  • Stronger security -- no data stored on the user's computer
  • The ability to use the Lumira Discovery web client -- no install on the client machine

APOS Live Data Gateway Data Sources for SAP Lumira

The APOS Live Data Gateway simplifies data access to numerous data sources, providing live data connectivity that can be managed easily by end users with no knowledge of SQL or MDX queries. Unlock live data from:

  • Microsoft SQL Server (On-Premise & Microsoft Azure)
  • Microsoft Analysis Services (MSAS - On-Premise & Microsoft Azure)
  • Oracle
  • Oracle Essbase
  • Oracle Exadata
  • Teradata
  • IBM Netezza
  • DB2
  • Google BigQuery
  • Azure Data Lake
  • Denodo
  • Redshift on Amazon Web Services
  • MongoDB & MongoDB Atlas
  • MySQL
  • Sybase IQ
  • Sybase SQL Anywhere
  • UNX and UNV universes
  • SAP BW (7.3 and higher)

Single Sign-On for SAP Lumira Users

Single sign-on for SAP Lumira users comes in three levels:

  • Level 1 - A single cached database account can be used by all users of a given connection.
  • Level 2 - The administrator can set up a list of accounts to be used to connect to the database, mapping SAP BusinessObjects accounts to databases. The administrator can optionally define row-level security for each account.
  • Level 3 - A link can be established automatically between SAP BusinessObjects accounts and UNX / UNV universes. The administrator can optionally define row-level security for each account.
