SAP BI System Restore Best Practice

Recently, a customer reached out to our Technical Support people for help, because something with their SAP BusinessObjects database change had gone terribly wrong. They had lost their administrator account. They needed to restore their system, and the organization’s trust in their system.

Our Support team suggested they use APOS Storage Center to move their content from the now crippled existing system to a newly built system. APOS Storage Center automates the archive functions in your SAP BusinessObjects deployment, helping you to manage the document lifecycle, safeguard data privacy, and achieve regulatory compliance. It features automated and rules-based backup, archive, partial restoration of selected documents, automated system cleanup, versioning, promotion and system replication.

The customer accepted APOS Storage Center as the solution to their problem, but they needed additional guidance on the order in which to restore the content.

Restore Layer by Layer

Here is where the best practice comes in. SAP BusinessObjects systems have layers, and these layers must be restored in the proper sequence so that each new layer creates and maintains its relationships with the previously restored layers.

Here is the recommended order for restoring your content to a new system:
