New! July 2025 SAP Analytics Business Intelligence Statement of Direction
The new SAP Analytics Business Intelligence Statement of Direction (SOD) has just been released. From the Executive Summary:

SAP Business Data Cloud is a fully managed SaaS solution that unifies and governs all SAP data and seamlessly connects with third-party data-giving line-of-business leaders context to make even more impactful decisions.
"With more than 30 years of innovations, SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform (SAP BusinessObjects BI) equips thousands of companies which reliably manage enterprise reporting use cases at scale. Our revised maintenance strategy guarantees Mainstream Maintenance until at least end of 2031 which secures your investments on the long run, whether you want to deploy on premise or in a private cloud.
"With SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025, we open a new chapter of our story with a revised maintenance strategy which addresses the need for more stability while keeping regular updates. We are switching from yearly support packages to minor releases every 2 years. Additionally, and in alignment with SAP standard maintenance strategy, Mainstream Maintenance is now followed by Customer Specific Maintenance during which we deliver fixes for high and very high security issues (CVSS >= 7) during the first year. For SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.3, we are extending Mainstream Maintenance until end of 2026, followed by Customer Specific Maintenance."

For SAP BusinessObjects customers, the BI 2025 timeline is encouraging. Mainstream Maintenance will carry the venerable BI platform through 2031 with a revised maintenance strategy. Cloud options will enhance the platform's efficiency and reduce IT's workload.
BI 2025 streamlines the SAP BusinessObjects experience, eliminating some elements to focus more efficiently on the platform's key competencies. No longer supported:
- SAP BusinessObjects Universe Design Tool and .unv universes
- Multi-source universes and associated connectivity
- SAP Lumira Discovery
- SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise
- SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for OLAP
- SAP BusinessObjects Live Office
- SAP BusinessObjects Mobile
Web Intelligence remains one of the key elements of this platform and a focus for continuous improvement. However, the deprecation of UNV universes means that many organizations have a critical and potentially labor- and time-intensive task on the path to BI 2025: converting UNV universes to UNX and repointing Web Intelligence reports to the new UNX universes.
