SAP BusinessObjects -
Applying Automation to UNX Adoption

L’universe UNV est mort; vive l’universe UNX.

SAP’s Laura Vega recently wrote a post on the SAP Community Network blog in which she declared “UNV is dead, long live UNX.” She went on:

“As you already have read in the latest  Business Intelligence Statement of Direction, SAP has decided to release an updated version of the BI suite code named SAP BusinessObjects BI 2024 to provide more time to our on-premises customers to adopt SAP Analytics Cloud.”

SAP BusinessObjects will live on for the foreseeable future. However, its long-time companion, the UNV universe, will be deprecated in BI 2025, and will be extinct at end of support for BI 4.3 in 2027. That may sound like the distant future, but in terms of large IT projects, it is not, and make no mistake, it will be a large IT project for organizations with 10s and 100s of throusands of Web Intelligence reports which will have to be repointed to new UNX universes. The time between now and then will give such organizations the opportunity to complete a timely and ordered transition to UNX. The transition will have to be ordered and efficient to avoid disruptions while carefully managing their content and resources.

APOS Migrator for Web Intelligence

Laura mentioned APOS Migrator for Web Intelligence by name in her SCN blog post, so we reached out to her to see if she would like to see a demo of the solution. She accepted our invitation, and the result was a new SCN blog post from Laura…

Automating UNX Adoption – Overview

…in which she gives her impressions of the solution’s feature set.

The APOS Migrator for Web Intelligence solution has been around since 2014, and has continued to evolve to meet the UNX upgrade needs of organizations of all sizes. It is a project-based solution that allows you to inventory your universes and reports, convert the universes in bulk or individually, repoint reports in bulk, and validate the success of the conversion and repointing – all with strong, project-based controls. Field mapping capabilities let you map source UNVs to target UNXs in cases where there are no one-to-one associations between universes. A high-availability option lets you outsource processes to other servers for distributed processing
