Customer Success – APOS Data Gateway - Banking
A British multinational bank with operations in consumer, corporate and institutional banking, and treasury services.
Landscape & Core Challenge
To manage an immense volume of data across their international operations, the bank uses SAP S/4HANA. They draw on Exasol data virtualization, in-memory technology and massively parallel processing to create a high-availability data environment for SAP Analytics Cloud, their analytics and visualization platform of choice. While the ledger and consolidation data set for Finance is maintained in S/4HANA, other critical data sets are stored in external data sources. These external data sets are critical to fulfill business requirements for dashboards that blend this data with finance data. They use Exasol to virtualize these external data sets.
Problem: SAP Analytics Cloud does not support live data connectivity with Exasol.
Without connectivity to Exasol, the bank could not achieve comprehensive coverage of critical data in their SAP Analytics Cloud Finance dashboards.
Requirements
- Live connectivity from SAP Analytics Cloud to Exasol
- High-performance connectivity providing Exasol access comparable to S/4HANA
- No replication or movement of data
- Existing Exasol data modelling and security leveraged in connection
Barriers
- SAP Analytics Cloud does not support live data connectivity with Exasol.
- Importing large quantities of data into SAP Analytics Cloud creates performance issues.
- Importing large quantities of data into SAP Analytics Cloud creates data latency issues.
Outcomes
The implementation of APOS Data Gateway allowed the bank to:
- Access data from non-SAP platforms in SAP Analytics Cloud
- Align on SAP Analytics Cloud as a common standard for analytics
- Expand use of SAP Analytics Cloud across other business units
“This customer's digital transformation included establishing centralized analytics using SAP Analytics Cloud and they used APOS Live Data Gateway to create an efficient connection to the non-SAP data they needed to blend with their SAP data.”
