Replace Qlik NPrinting functionality in Power BI with PowerBurst

Qlik users have become accustomed to NPrinting functionality as a means of generating and distributing their reports. But many Qlik users are moving from the Qlik desktop to cloud-based analytics platforms such as Power BI as part of larger corporate IT and data platform modernization initiatives.

When these users migrate to Power BI, they naturally look at Power BI Report Builder to perform the activities they had previously managed in NPrinting, but often find it doesn't meet their requirements. They see significant gaps and limitations compared to NPrinting.

The QlikView platform, while not fully deprecated, is not being further developed by Qlik. QlikView users are encouraged to adopt Qlik Sense (on-premise) or Qlik Cloud Analytics (SaaS). Organizations are having to make hard choices about whether to stick with Qlik solutions or adopt analytics solutions that are fully integrated with the AI and data platforms that are key ingredients in their digital transformation and modernization.

APOS PowerBurst is uniquely positioned to provide advanced report generation, orchestration and distribution in Power BI, Tableau, Google Looker, SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Analysis for Office environments. Not only will it simplify your Power BI report generation and distribution, and empower your users, but it will also allow you to centralize report management and governance for other analytics platforms you may have.

Limitations of Power BI

Organizations moving from NPrinting to Power BI often discover a fundamental shift: while NPrinting is built for automated, personalized report distribution, Power BI is primarily designed for interactive analytics and centralized consumption. As a result, key reporting and delivery capabilities that NPrinting users have relied on are not available within Power BI, including:

  • Bursting / personalization: Power BI does not natively support generating and delivering one report tailored to many recipients based on report filtering.
  • Multi-format output: Power BI has limited native options for consistently delivering reports in multiple formats.
  • Scheduling and event-driven delivery: Power BI subsc riptions provide basic scheduling but lack the flexibility for more advanced delivery scenarios.
  • Distribution beyond licensed users: Power BI generally assumes recipients access content within the platform and often requires licensing, significantly limiting broad external distribution.
  • Distribution Logic: Power BI offers simpler distribution options and does not natively support the recipient targeting and conditional logic that exists in NPrinting.

APOS PowerBurst:
Enterprise Report Generation, Orchestration & Distribution

PowerBurst extends the reach of Power BI with automated delivery of reports and analytics to all your stakeholders, getting personalized reports to the right people, at the right time, in the right format. Where Power BI focuses on interactive, centralized consumption, PowerBurst provides the operational distribution capabilities that NPrinting users rely on, along with significant additional and advanced functionality -enabling scalable automation, personalization, and multi-channel delivery that are not natively addressed in the Power BI platform. In this way, PowerBurst directly fills the gap for organizations looking to replicate and modernize their NPrinting workflows within a Power BI environment, and also opens up important new information delivery possibilities.
